WEAPONS DIAL
The Deep End Games
In early development, we were looking into a companionship dial where the player could pair dating monsters and their unique abilities to weapons. Our inspiration was Bioshock's Weapons equip wheel, and our result was a similar weapons equip combining weapons and attacks akin to Castlevania.
INITIAL CONCEPT
The Weapons dial was once a companion dial. We designed an ornate jewel with slots that the player could use to equip character relationships to strengthen combat abilities.
Later, this would become the seeds we planted to form to our combat weapons wheel.
ICONOGRAPHY
I am an iconography nerd.
Bioshock is one of my favorite games, and it was a dream to get to work with the team that built it on Romancelvania. I was heavily influence by Rob Waters, who did the initial iconography for Bioshock to come up with the iconography used in the Weapons wheel
A NEW APPROACH
We took the initial romantic direction and gave it a facelift once the narrative direction for Romancelvania completely changed. Now we needed a look that was Dracula on a game show, with elements that felt like the inside of a filming studio rather than a romantic jewel.
