HEADS UP DISPLAY
In early development, we looked into dialogue boxes with a theme for each monster. Inspired by the gameplay in Hades and Persona 5, our initial HUD underwent a facelift when the Kickstarter was funded and a new publisher acquired us. With their marketing team, we landed on a more cinematic game show approach.

DIALOGUE BOXES
The dialogue boxes were one of my favorite parts of Romancelvania to design, especially as I got to play with the look and feel for each character. When the game style moved towards Persona 5, we experimented with various shapes for dialogue but eventually landed on a very minimalist overlay in the final game.
HUD LAYOUT
Our initial concepts were more romantic and ornate. Later, when the story changed, we explored a game show feel inspired by Persona 5 and Hades.
HEALTH BAR AND MAGIC BAR
We took the initial romantic direction and gave it a facelift once the narrative direction for Romancelvania completely changed. Now we needed a look that was Dracula on a game show, with elements that felt like the inside of a filming studio rather than a romantic jewel.
